Aerospace
From Concept to Customer. Faster Than Traditional Manufacturing Allows.
Aerospace sets the standard that every other industry measures itself against. The tolerances are tighter, the material requirements are stricter, the documentation is more rigorous, and the consequences of failure are more severe than in almost any other manufacturing context.
Axiom Works is built for that standard.
Why Additive Manufacturing Belongs in Aerospace
The aerospace industry was one of the earliest adopters of industrial additive manufacturing, and for good reason. The process offers capabilities that traditional manufacturing simply cannot match in several critical areas.
Weight reduction without structural compromise.
Topology optimized geometry, internal lattice structures, and organic forms that follow load paths rather than machining constraints allow additive manufactured parts to be significantly lighter than their traditionally manufactured counterparts. In aerospace, every gram removed from a structure has downstream value across fuel efficiency, payload capacity, and system performance.
Assembly consolidation.
Multiple components that would traditionally be machined separately and assembled together can often be produced as a single additive manufactured part. Fewer fasteners, fewer interfaces, fewer potential failure points, and a simpler assembly process.
Complex internal geometry.
Cooling channels, internal passages, and conformal features that are impossible or prohibitively expensive to machine are straightforward in additive. For thermal management components, fuel system parts, and structural elements with complex load requirements, this is a significant engineering advantage.
Low volume production without tooling cost.
Aerospace programs often require small quantities of highly engineered parts. Traditional manufacturing methods require tooling investment that is difficult to justify at low volumes. Additive manufacturing eliminates that barrier entirely.
Materials That Meet Aerospace Requirements
Material selection in aerospace is not a preference. It is a specification. Parts must meet defined thermal, mechanical, and in many cases flame, smoke, and toxicity requirements before they are approved for use.
Our Vision Miner industrial equipment processes ultra-performance polymers that meet aerospace material standards:
ULTEM 9085 — one of the most widely used additive manufacturing materials in aerospace, with FAA recognized flame, smoke, and toxicity ratings and excellent mechanical properties across a broad temperature range
PEEK — exceptional thermal stability, chemical resistance, and mechanical strength for structural and fluid handling applications
Carbon fiber reinforced composites — high stiffness to weight ratios for structural components where dimensional stability under load is critical
Additional certified high performance polymers — selected and validated against the specific requirements of each application
Material traceability documentation is available for all aerospace engagements, supporting your qualification and certification requirements.
Applications in Aerospace
Axiom Works supports aerospace engineering teams across a range of applications:
Flight hardware — structural brackets, housings, and components designed and optimized for airborne use
Interior components — cabin panels, ducting, and non-structural interior elements requiring FST compliance
Ground support equipment — custom tooling, fixtures, and handling aids for maintenance and assembly operations
End of arm tooling — lightweight, conformal tooling for automated aerospace assembly systems
Inspection and assembly fixtures — precision locating fixtures that hold flight hardware in repeatable orientations for measurement and assembly operations
Prototype and qualification parts — engineering grade parts for design validation and system qualification programs
The Engineering Behind the Parts
Axiom Works brings a full mechanical engineering background to every aerospace engagement. That means we are thinking about load paths, material anisotropy, build orientation effects on mechanical properties, and qualification requirements from the beginning of the design conversation.
We are not a print bureau that processes aerospace files. We are an engineering partner that understands the environment those parts will operate in and the standards they need to meet.
With 17 years of additive manufacturing experience and direct access to aerospace grade materials and process controls, Axiom Works is positioned to support aerospace programs that need more than a vendor. They need a partner who understands what is at stake.
Documentation and Traceability
Regulated aerospace manufacturing environments require documentation. We support those requirements with:
Material certifications and traceability records
Dimensional inspection reports
Process parameter documentation
First article inspection support
If your program has specific quality documentation requirements beyond these, we are structured to accommodate them as part of the production relationship.
